Our ASD-1 (Autism) Approach
Our multimodal teaching provides students on the autism spectrum (previously referred to as Asperger's Syndrome) an environment to connect with subject matter in a way that works for them. We do not place limits on teaching ideas or classroom interactions. Students with varied interests have access to learning comfortably. Calculated risk-taking allows students to gain self-confidence, while consistent scaffolding offers a secure platform to build skills and proficiency.
We see each student diagnosed with ASD-1 as an individual with their unique challenges and strengths. Each diagnosis, including ASD-1, is unique. Most importantly, a student is not a diagnosis. They may be on the autism spectrum but that does not define who they are or their potential. We create the space and time to connect to the individual and teach to each student's strengths and passions. We work to break down barriers and provide a flexible, encouraging, and safe environment.
