Mathematics
Broccoli Hall offers all levels of mathematics, from basic arithmetic through advanced calculus. In order to address each student’s unique learning style, students of any age studying the same area of mathematics are placed together, and then the curriculum content is taught and explored by individual pace. To accommodate student learning, instruction and expectations are adjusted as needed in order to support and appropriately challenge each student. Textbooks and relevant learning materials are chosen to match the style and personality of each student and change as needed to meet the progress of the student. As with all subjects in our curriculum, self-advocacy is not only encouraged but expected and met with excitement and compassion by our faculty.
Science
Classes are taught with the expectation that some students will have a proclivity and aptitude for science, while others will have other preferred subjects. Our philosophy is that all students can find the sciences interesting, engaging, and understandable. Due to our small enrollment, year-to-year changes in group population, and different educational backgrounds coming into our school, the sciences are taught on a three-year rotation. Two courses are taught per year: a high-school level science to the older groups, and a junior-high-level science to the younger groups.
Our current rotation looks like this:
Year | Junior High | High School |
---|---|---|
A | Physical Science | Chemistry |
B | Earth Science | Physics |
C | Life Science | Biology |
For high-schoolers who have already completed the course being taught that year, we strongly encourage students to seek further instruction off campus, e.g. at Harvard Extension, with support on campus.
We have a newly-renovated science lab with dedicated spaces for 3-D modeling. Available equipment includes several 3D printers, a CNC router, a resin printer and a laser cutter. We also have a stocked workshop for our STEM project-based curriculum.
